Educational Programs
The Performing Arts Medicine program provides educational presentations focused on injury prevention and strengthening to dance schools, theaters, and high schools. Exercise classes
and floor barre are also available.
The annual Performing Arts Medicine Symposium for Teachers offers educational opportunities, dance classes and ballet performance for teachers and advanced students of all of the
performing arts, including dance, music, singing and acting. The biannual Performing Arts Medicine newsletter provides timely articles on injury prevention and care for all performing
artists.
Jacqui Haas
Former ballet dancer Jacqui Haas, A.T.C., cares for performers in all their health matters as director of Performing arts Medicine. Haas has extended her reach into the community as the
athletic trainer of the Cincinnati Ballet, the School of Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, the Arnoff Center for Performing Arts and the University of Cincinnati (UC) dance
department and as a frequent guest lecturer at UC.
Haas trained at The School of American Ballet, the Boston ballet and the Cleveland Ballet. As a professional, she danced with the Southern Ballet Theater, Tampa Ballet, New Orleans City
Ballet, the Cincinnati Ballet and Ballet Artists Cincinnati. A member of the faculty of the School of the Cincinnati Ballet, Haas earned her bachelor's degree in dance form the University
of South Florida and her Athletic Training Certification from UC.
Jill Vonderharr
With a background in gymnastics, choreography, jazz, and ballet, Performing Arts Medicine coordinator Jill Vonderhaar, P.T., understands the high-performance athlete. She uses a holistic
approach to healing by evaluating all muscle imbalances and not just the acute injury. This approach heals the injury and educates the artist in correcting faulty movement patterns.
Vonderhaar focuses her work and research on the unique injuries of musicians and dancers. Her community involvement includes educational presentations at dance schools and backstage work
at the Cincinnati Ballet and the UC dance department. Vonderhaar will also be teaching at the School of the Cincinnati Ballet. A graduate of St. Louis University, Vonderhaar received her
bachelor's degree in physical therapy.
Alicia Zabala
With over 12 years experience as a former ballet dancer with the Jefferson Ballet Theatre, Alicia comes to Spectrum from New Orleans, Louisiana. Alicia is a certified pilates instructor
and one of the ath;letic trainers for the Cincinnati Ballet. She covers the University of Cincinnati's Dance Department and assists with the School for Creative and Performing Arts. As
an adjunct instructor, Alicia also teaches several classes for the Dance curriculum at CCM. She earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Southeastern Louisiana University,
where she also danced with DanceWorks, SLU's modern dance company.
